Welcome!
I am Shoubhik Banerjee a graduate student in the Kao Lab at the University of Massachussetts Boston.
My research interests lie in understanding the mechanisms of collective decision-making in animal groups, such as fish schools and bird flocks. Specifically, I investigate these mechanisms along three key dimensions: cognitive capacity, environmental context and task complexity.
I take an interdisciplinary approach that spans between lab and field settings, combining mathematical modeling with high-resolution movement data collected through behavioral experiments.
Outside of Science, I’m an avid birder and enjoy sketching and photographing birds during my walks.
